SS & NHS Learn About Leadership and Teamwork
On January 26th, Student Senate took a joint field trip with National Honor Society to participate in team building exercises by immersing themselves in Student Leadership Day at the Syracuse Crunch. To start the day off right, we worked on team building and getting comfortable with each other at 5WiTS located in Destiny USA. We worked together to solve problems, puzzles, riddles, physical challenges in three different escape room situations. We found a dragon, stopped nuclear warheads, and found our way through an Egyptian tomb - all while learning to depend on each other and use our collective skills to beat the other team. Team A beat Team One by the skin of their teeth! After we “escaped,” we headed over to the War Memorial Arena to meet with very special guests. We toured the rink and the locker room (never step on the Crunch logo - it’s a $50 fine!), before heading back upstairs to participate in discussions about leadership, perseverance, tenacity, and positive thinking with Tom Santurri (Dunkin’ Donuts franchisee - yes he owns the Polkville one!), Jason Murray (sports editor for Syracuse.com), and Nicole Imbrogno (Internship Placement Coordinator for Syracuse University). After the discussion, students from Central Square led team building activities that were one of the highlights of the day. Everyone met someone new and worked with students from other districts. We also had a great pizza party before heading down to watch the Syracuse Crunch play the Bellville Senators. One student even got to watch the Crunch players warm up from their bench! Most of us had never been to a hockey game before, so it was so much fun to experience it for the first time together. In the end, the Crunch beat the Senators, but more importantly we were able to bond as two clubs and learn about the quality that we work hardest on all year round: leadership. We hope to go back again next year!
